Have you ever thought about what freediving in Patagonia is like?

I'm a competitive Freediver and run Freediving Patagonia, my own SSI Freedive Center in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia, Argentina.

Peninsula Valdes is a place which was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1999, and where you can find whales, sea lions and penguins all in the same freedive session!

For me, as an SSI Freediving instructor, one of the most beautiful places to freedive close to the city, and the place where most of our open water practices take part, is the Folias shipwreck.

In December 1980 this fishing vessel caught fire, was abandoned by its crew, and sunk 200m from the shoreline in Playa Parana, 5km from the city centre.

Since then, it is the divers and freedivers playground; it is possible to access it by swimming from the shore. Its depth is 10 metres and the water temperature ranges from 9°C
in the winter to 18°C in summer, so a 7mm Mares wetsuit is mandatory to be sure that the cold will not be a problem. In summer, a 5mm Mares wetsuit is enough for this place.

As this shipwreck is close to the surface, it is a great place for underwater photography, with a lot of invertebrates that make this place excellent for macro photography or playing with the lights and shadows that the shipwreck offers.

I take most of my students there to make their first freedives, safety practices and when we want to freedive for fun!
