Occasionally I enter prestigious international photo contests. The selected pictures have the power to leave a mark, spread knowledge, foster a better understanding of the complexity and importance of the natural world and raise awareness of the role of entire ecosystems.
I'd like to extend my gratitude and thanks to all people, workers, helpers, assistants and sponsors, that make my work possible.
I am very happy about the results of the prestigious Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Environmental Photography Award 2023 where three of my pictures were selected by the jury and ranked very well in different categories:
- “Tiny Umbrella” (a tiny benthic hydromedusa, Ptychogastria polaris) won first place in the 'Polar Wonders' category
- “Life Cycle” (a female short-finned pilot whale, Globicephala macrorhynchus, carrying her dead calf) won second place in the 'Ocean Worlds' category
- “Hunting” (striped marlin, Tetrapturus audax, hunting a bait ball of sardines) was shortlisted in the 'Ocean Worlds' category
My congratulations to all participants: the quality of the selected pictures is outstanding. Let’s hope they will convey environmental values to a larger public.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Environmental Photography Award is an annual contest created with the aim of rewarding photographers who put their creativity to good use in raising awareness for environmental protection.
Large-format prints of the shortlisted and winning photographs are displayed in an exclusive exhibition in the Principality of Monaco, conveying the environmental values dear to the Sovereign and the Principality to the public and raising awareness of environmental issues.
The exhibition will then travel internationally, contributing to the promotion of the Environmental Photography Award and the Foundation.
